Social Work students receive Chancellor's Scholar Awards


Mandy Christine Parrino, a Bachelor of Social Work Student, and Ankita Deka, a PhD student in Social Work, were among those honored at the IUPUI Chancellor’s Academic Convocation April 29. Both students received Chancellor’s Scholar Awards.

In Parrino’s case, the award recognition read, “The School of Social Work is proud to recognize Mandy for her excellence in academics as well as her abiding commitment to the children of the world. She has challenged herself in the classroom, during her two practicum experiences as well as in her community volunteerism on behalf of vulnerable children in Africa.”

Deka was selected by the Graduate School for the Doctoral Program and her recognition read, “Ankita came to IUPUI in the fall of 2004 as one of the first international students to be admitted to the PhD program in Social Work. Her current research interests include health disparities, gender and poverty in developing countries, and marginalized populations. Ankita is now an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Augsburg College in Minnesota.”
