(Click for a .doc copy)

Advances in Social Work is a refereed journal published by Indiana University School of Social Work. The journal seeks to publish empirical, conceptual, and theoretical articles in all areas of social work research, education, and practice. Interdisciplinary contributions are encouraged. Authors are provided timely and constructive reviews of their manuscripts. Manuscripts should adhere to the following guidelines:

1.  Articles should be no more than 20 double-spaced typed pages (including abstract, tables, and references) with one-inch margins on all sides. A ‘Times New Roman’ 12-point font is preferred. An electronic file (on disk or via e-mail) and four printed copies are required.
2.  Institutional affiliations of all authors and their full mailing addresses, including e-mail, should be provided on a cover page only. To facilitate anonymous reviews, all identifying information should be left off the manuscript.
3.  An abstract of 150 words or less should be included. A list of three to five key words that reflect the content of the manuscript should be provided directly below the abstract.
4. Figures, charts, diagrams, and illustrations, along with titles, should be “camera ready” and typed on separate sheets. Author(s) should indicate their placement in the manuscript.
5. Tables should be numbered and referred to by number in the text. Each table should have a title and should be typed on a separate sheet of paper.
6.  Acknowledgments and footnotes should appear on the last page and references should start immediately after footnotes.
7.  Citations, references, footnotes, and the overall format of the manuscript should follow the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (5th edition) style guidelines.
8.  An electronic copy of the manuscript should be included on disk at the time you submit to us for consideration.  The file should be in Word for Windows PC version format.
9.  Publication of an article does not imply endorsement of the author’s opinion by the Editor, Editorial Board, or Indiana University School of Social Work.
10. Papers that have been previously published with substantially similar content or submitted simultaneously to another journal will not be considered.
11.  Copyright permission is required at the time manuscripts are reviewed.
12.  Authors are personally responsible for ensuring adherence to relevant copyright laws.
13.  Manuscripts and inquiries should be addressed to:
