Dr. Lorraine Blackman to give first TRIP lecture

Dr. Lorraine Blackman to give first TRIP lecture
Lorraine Blackman

Feb. 5, 2008 - Dr. Lorraine Blackman, an associate professor in the School of Social Work, will give the first TRIP lecture and will discuss research in family life planning that could help prevent the number of unwanted pregnancies.

Blackman will speak on “Preventing Unwanted Pregnancies and Births through Family Life Education,” at noon Feb. 21 in Room 309 of the Campus Center. Lunch will be provided.

Blackman, who holds a doctorate in social work, specializes in family life education and in shaping social policies to help families function better.

Blackman and her students on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus recently came up with a series of prevention and coping tips for parents, adolescents (10 years and up) single parents and even community leaders to address the I issue.

The lecture series, called TRIP (Translating Research Into Practice) Dialogue Spaces, are designed to offer an informal setting for scholars to talk about their work. The event is open to faculty, students and community partners.

For more information contact Rob Schneider, School of Social Work, (317) 278-0303 or at robschn@iupui.edu
