Larue Carter Outcome Study This pilot study examined the impact of evidence based treatment and psychosocial rehabilitation in a state hospital with a diverse SMI population. Does receiving psychosocial rehabilitation services (PSR), in addition to psychotropic medication, make a difference in an individual's functioning? While exploring the functional impact of PSR services after individuals return to the community, the pilot also assessed the newly developed functional assessment instrument. The findings supported the fidelity of the functional assessment instrument. Preliminary findings also suggested that discharged individuals who received PSR maintained a higher level of functioning in the community than individuals who were discharged from other services. The issues of conducting program evaluation and research in a practice setting are being explored.
