A statewide needs assessment of services for families of adults with severe mental illness The goals of this study are to examine, from the perspectives of mental health professionals, the degree to which mental health programs in Indiana provide services to families and meet the needs of family members, and to identify barriers to developing such services. A statewide needs assessment will be conducted with mental health professionals serving people with severe mental illness (SMI) in community mental health center (CMHC) programs in Indiana, using a self-administered mail survey. The research will lead to better understanding of gaps in current services for families, staff’s attitudes and knowledge, and barriers. Findings from this study will also have important practice implications for development of more effective strategies to address the problems. The study is funded by Indiana Division of Mental Health and Addiction.
