Faculty Recognition at the IUPUI International Festival

At the International Festival, IUPUI Chancellor Nasser Paydar talked of the importance of building bridges in the world at a time others are trying to build walls. During the event, the university recognized faculty and staff who have been working to engage people, not shut them out. Dr. Carmen Luca Sugawara, who knows a thing or two about walls having grown up in Communist Romania, received the Susan Buck Sutton Faculty Award for Study Abroad. She was honored for her work to expand the School of Social Work’s international and global learning opportunities, both in the classroom, campus level and in the field. Dr. Luca Sugawara has offered a course in Croatia, International Service Learning – Social Work Practice in War Torn Communities  since 2011.
