Dr. Carmen Luca Sugawara is named Outstanding IUPUI Woman Leader

Dr. Carmen Luca Sugawara has been selected as the Outstanding IUPUI Woman Leader in the "newcomer" faculty category for the 2011 Women's History Leadership Awards.

Dr. Carmen Luca SugawaraDr. Luca Sugawara joined the Indiana University School of Social Work in 2007 and has helped the School expand its international curriculum.  "Her efforts in raising awareness of international issues and perspectives are reflected in her research agenda, in her teaching, and in her professional service to the School of Social Work, to the profession of Social Work, and to the IUPUI community," Dr. Margaret Adamek wrote in a letter supporting Dr. Luca Sugawara’s nomination. "In addition to being tireless and committed, Dr. Luca Sugawara is genuinely excited about international issues. Her enthusiasm is refreshing and engenders excitement in others."

In a letter announcing her award, Kathleen S. Grove, Director of the IUPUI Office for Women, wrote, "I am so pleased to be able to acknowledge our outstanding service to IUPUI." The award will be presented at a reception in Room 450 at the Campus Center on March 29.
