Dr. Jerry Powers, first director of the PhD program at the Indiana University School of Social Work, recounts history of the creation of the program

The PhD program at Indiana University was years in the making before it was finally approved by the Indiana Commission on Higher Education. But up until the final minutes of the Commission's deliberations on the School's proposal, no one knew for sure if it would be approved or not. At the 15th Annual PhD Spring Symposium, Dr. Jerry Powers, the first Director of the School's PhD program, talks at length about the history of how the program came about.
