Jessica Curd is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who has several years of practice experience, including almost 8 years in hospice practice and leadership. She is a nationally certified palliative and end-of-life social worker (ACHP-SW, APHSW-C) and is a graduate of Smith College Palliative and End-of-Life graduate certificate program. She serves on the national Board of Directors for SWHPN. Prior to starting this role, she received the SWHPN Career Achievement Award. She is also the recipient of the national HPNA/HPCC APHSW-C Social Worker Certificant of the Year Award. She is a member of two NHPCO councils (End-of-Life Doula Council and Social Work Committee). She has presented nationally and regionally about the hospice social worker experience and the critical role social workers play on the hospice care team. She is a PhD Candidate at Indiana University School of Social Work and is now an Assistant Professor for Ball State University. Her research interests include end-of-life disparities, the hospice social worker experience, the importance of hospice doulas in hospice care, trauma, intersectionality, health disparities, disability and neurodiversity, end-of-life experiences for those with disabilities, autism, and the experiences and perceptions of girls and women with autism spectrum difference. She also founded and operates a private counseling practice, Red Wheelbarrow Counseling, focusing on grief, trauma, caregiving, disability, and neurodivergence.
