Laura WestWe would like for you to meet one of our current Online MSW students, Laura West. Laura is in her third year of the Online Master of Social Work program, during which she has been able to work full-time and complete her practicum.

Laura previously completed a master’s program in Human Services, stating she did not know much about the MSW program but wishes she would have gotten her MSW first. She decided to go back for her MSW because she knew that she would need to become licensed to stay in the field.

Laura says overall, as an adult learner, she has had a good experience. One semester she was taking a policy and research class, and she was grateful her professors were always willing to talk with her, answer phone calls, walk her through things, and help her figure out what she was doing. She enjoyed her Military Social Work course, where lecturer Diana Kelly, MSW, LCSW was able to not only use book learning but also speak from personal experience.

Laura’s advice to those looking to pursue an online degree “Give yourself time to learn all the different systems and platforms and reach out to your professors they want you to succeed, I felt that.”

Laura’s first practicum was working with homeless veterans and families, and upon completion of the program, she would like to continue working to help veterans struggling with mental health and addiction.
