Curtis Williamson Enlightens Us on the Positive Effects Social Work Can Have in Our Community
Curtis holds a Master of Social Work from Indiana University (IUPUI, 2013), as well as a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Cincinnati (2011). Since 2011, Curtis has been licensed to practice Social Work and is currently clinically licensed to practice in Indiana (LCSW) and Ohio (LISW). He is responsible for providing academic advising for incoming and registered graduate-level students regarding admissions and academic requirements each semester, along with teaching practice courses for the online MSW program.
For Curtis, social work provides opportunities to empower, connect with, and help break down barriers for people. Curtis has immense experience in several areas of social work including case management and clinical treatment planning for homeless veterans, behavioral healthcare management for Medicaid, and healthcare research for a major federally funded research project for older adults and their surrogates. While social work is a rewarding profession for Curtis, he emphasizes the importance of recognizing secondary stress and the need for self-care. “As we work in the field of social work and manage our lived experiences, it is important to be aware of the need to take care of ourselves,” Curtis said. “Actionable steps like seeking good social work supervision and setting clear boundaries between your job and your work will make you a healthier person and a better helping professional.”
