It is my great honor to tell you John Keesler received NADD’s 2021 Steven Reiss Research Award! NADD is the National Association for the Dually Diagnosed whose mission is to “promote leadership in the expansion of knowledge, training, policy, and advocacy for mental health practices that promote a quality life for individuals with dual diagnosis (intellectual/developmental disabilities and mental illness) in their communities.”

John M. Keesler

John was nominated and then selected by an international committee of renowned researchers for his impressive contributions to our field and ​because he best met the criteria for this award, which includes the following:

  • Has made significant scientific contributions toward the understanding and advancement of mental wellness for people with developmental disabilities.
  • Has produced a focused and productive body of applied research which, over the past five years, has advanced best practice in the field of dual diagnosis.
  • Has demonstrated research independence and an ability to secure funding to support research in this field over time.
  • Has engaged in efforts to communicate and disseminate research results widely through both traditional and nontraditional means including journal articles, presentations, internet venues or other media.
  • Has inspired and encouraged other efforts in research in this field through the collaborative nature of their work.

NADD told John, “We are delighted to honor you, your immense impact in our field and we thank you for the incredible work you do.”
