IUSSW Response to Ukraine
With each passing day, we are watching the invasion of Ukraine and the unimaginable human suffering, pain and trauma inflicted in communities directly affected by this war. We stand in solidarity with Ukraine and commend the extraordinary global measures to assist those forced to flee their homes and those who remain.
The events may be happening far from our Indiana campuses. However, our IUSSW family comprises students, faculty, global partners, and staff worldwide, including Ukraine, Russia, and surrounding regions. As we are deeply alarmed by this humanitarian crisis, with many experiencing indescribable emotional duress, our collective spirit is strengthened through the very commitment we have to human rights and the wellbeing of people throughout the world. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine, and with the many others affected by this war.
In this uncertain moment, we offer our heartfelt support to all who need assistance. Ways to help yourself with the crisis unfolding before us include: take time to breathe, look for the positive in your own life and express gratitude, limit media, spend time with your own support system, and seek help when you need it.
Resources are available through IU to help our IUSSW community cope and draw strength from one another. Please see the list below to assist with the impact of trauma you may be experiencing.
Faculty and Staff EAP: Trained counselors are available for immediate support by calling 1-888-881-5462. There is no callback or special intake. The service is accessible 24/7.
While we share our services and other ways you can help the relief efforts, sometimes what is most needed is a friend or a colleague to extend a hand, listen and lift up each other. As a community, please remember to make a special effort to be patient, compassionate and generous during this time. Reach out to someone you trust to listen and be present for you.
