Lauren Rubin graduated from IU Bloomington with her BSW in 2013 and completed her MSW from the University of Michigan in 2014. Lauren has been a social worker since beginning work in October 2014. She became fully licensed in 2017.

Since 2017, Lauren has been working at the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. She chose social work because of the versatility of the field and knowing that in her role as a social worker in her community, she could be a part of helping others and making a difference. As a student, she wasn’t sure what exactly she wanted to do but knew that a degree in social work could be applied to countless jobs. Once she started taking classes, it felt like a match as she loved the discussions and topics within the courses she took.

She has used her social work degree in many ways over the years. First, in her role as an employment specialist at Jewish Vocation Service in Southfield, MI. In this role, she worked with young adults in the metro Detroit area on their employment goals- networking, interview skills, resume writing, workshop teaching, and more. She spent time with young adults one-on-one helping them to understand what they want in a job or career.

Lauren’s biggest accomplishment within the field is creating long-lasting relationships within the Jewish community in metro Detroit. She has enjoyed seeing young adults take their journey through Jewish Detroit.

Words of wisdom: “Get licensed, use professor office hours and always network!”
