Yoga in 12-Step Recovery
What is yoga and how can it be used to support sustainable relapse prevention for those in recovery from addiction? Using the origins of yogic practice and philosophy, our presenter will walk through the application of an evolving relapse prevention model that combines the 12-step model with the ancient wisdom of yoga. Participants can expect to come away with a better understanding of what yoga is and how it can be applied to sustainable recovery from addiction.
Nancy B. Pieper, LCSW, LCAC, RYT200 received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Louisville, Kent School of Social Work. She has worked many years in community mental health settings as a clinician and administrator. As a Staff Therapist at Margaret Mary Health, Nancy currently practices as a licensed clinical social worker and licensed addictions counselor, providing both groups and individual therapies to those in recovery from mental health and addiction issues. In 2020, Nancy completed her 200-hour training as a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance. She is also a Certified Yoga of Twelve Step Recovery Leader and holds Y12SR meetings weekly at 1 Voice in Aurora, Indiana.

- Learn the history and rationale behind Yoga of Twelve Step Recovery.
- Understand what a Yoga of Twelve Step Recovery meeting may look like.
- Understand the relationship between body-based recovery strategies and sustainable relapse prevention.
- Learn basic elements of yoga beyond physical movement.
