Voices from the Field Series 2023

This program spotlights social workers from different concentration areas. It will be a one-hour virtual workshop for students not limited to those majoring in social work, alumni, and community partners. Speakers will discuss how they selected social work as their profession, their career journey, where they currently work, the roles and responsibilities they hold/have held, and advice they have for future and current social workers. 

Panelists:

Nicki Fleming, LCSW, Ph.D. - Dr. Fleming graduated from IUSSW BSW (2003), MSW (2004). She obtained her Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, England with a focus on Social Work. Dr. Fleming has spent over 20 years in practice working within the micro- and mezzo-levels of social work practice providing therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. She has had a particular focus within her practice of forensic social work and working with adults involved within the legal system and extremist organizations across nine countries.

Aaron Lane, MSOL, MSW is Co-founder of Courageous Healing, INC. and Courageous Living, LLC. Aaron has a Bachelor’s degree from Purdue University in Law and Society, with a minor in Organizational Leadership & Supervision, in addition, he holds two Master’s degrees in Organizational Leadership from Indiana Tech University and a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from Indiana University. He has a vast knowledge-base comprised of certifications in Emotional Intelligence, Lominger, DISC, MBTI and a variety of other trainings. He has a strong passion for mentoring and motivating others to achieve life goals through expanding their knowledge base, supporting their interpersonal growth, and challenging the status quo. Aaron has spent the last 13 years doing motivational speaking, consulting, and program development. His areas of interest include: education, leadership development, team-building, diversity, athletics, and much more. Having an opportunity to play sports at the highest level, coupled with his years of experience as an athlete, coach, and performance coach has equipped him with a unique approach to motivation. He is devoted to and gifted in working with diverse populations, creating unity among others, and community outreach.

Melissa Sichting is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor with 15 years of experience. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Purdue University in 2003 and received her MSW from IUPUI in 2007. She has worked in different settings including community mental health, the VA, and non-profits throughout her career. She’s been the owner of M. & S. Counseling since 2011 and has supervised a number of contract providers during that time. She is EMDR Certified and also trained as an Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) clinician, specializing in women’s issues, trauma, and mood disorders. She is also a co-owner of Creative Therapist Consulting and The Creative Therapist Shop, enjoying opportunities to help other therapists with opening their private practices and creating unique office and personal items that highlight mental health awareness.
