Our clinical and community practice curriculum arms you with the broad knowledge to work across social work’s continuum and be licensed for both micro- and macro-level practice.
Accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, the MSW program is offered at Indianapolis and six other campuses across the state. We also offer the MSW Direct Online Program.

Dual Programs and Certificate #
Expand your knowledge and credentials with our MSW/MPH or MSW/JD or certificate program—including the nation’s only e-social work certificate. In addition, our collaborative, student-centered environment allows you to build your professional network with faculty and fellow students while you learn.
Unlike other MSW programs, ours concentrates on both clinical and community practice, so students are broadly prepared and highly marketable. This gives them the freedom to build their careers however they choose.

Experiential learning fuels interests, sharpens skills #
IU School of Social Work develops and maintains strong relationships with a variety of social work practicum sites within the student’s local community as well as internationally through study abroad partners. These partnerships allow us to offer opportunities with an array of inspiring and challenging learning experiences.
Our placement planning process is collaborative and highly personalized. Our field team works closely with students to match them with a practicum site that meets CSWE accreditation requirements and provides impactful learning experiences.
A graduate program that works for you #
Sometimes life takes the unexpected turn. That’s why we’ve structured our program to be flexible in meeting student needs. You have up to six years to complete the full degree program. And with all MSW courses offered every term, it’s easy to resume your studies after a pause. BSW graduates who enter the program with advanced standing can finish their MSW degree in just 12 months.
