Enhancing care for our veterans

Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program #
The Veteran Trauma and Transparency Program is an interdisciplinary workshop series offered to third- and fourth-year undergraduate and graduate students to increase awareness and knowledge of military culture and experiences for future service providers and improve the quality of care for veterans. This training will include exposure to sensitive content and personal stories.
Professional Development Certificate in Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) #
Trauma-informed care (TIC) is an approach that organizations and individuals can adopt in response to the high prevalence of trauma and its subsequent impact on wellbeing. While TIC requires training, factors such as cost, travel, and time can be barriers. This TIC training, available through Public Health and YOU, is self-paced and available free of charge. The training provides a foundational curriculum to help the learner understand the basic components of TIC, as well as options for exploring TIC within specialized populations (youth, Veterans, people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and justice-involved individuals). All learners seeking CEUs are required to complete the Foundations of TIC module (4 hours) and one of the population-specific applications (2 hours) to receive a certificate of completion for credit (total = 6 hours).

Creative Arts for Vets (CAV) #
Creative Arts for Vets (CAV) aims to support veterans, service members, and military-connected populations of all ages and abilities through the arts and arts-based approaches that promote connectedness and improve mental health and wellbeing. Evidence-based research shows that arts-based wellness, equine assisted activities, and yoga can improve mindfulness, and reduce negative feelings associated with stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Creative Arts for Vets collaborates with veterans, service members, military-connected populations, community organizations, and the Indiana Department of Veteran Affairs to develop unique experiences that fit the needs and interests present in specific communities. All of our events are free, and we travel anywhere in the state of Indiana and beyond. With our events, veterans and service members are always encouraged to bring a plus one—a spouse, a friend, or an adult family member.
