You (probably) Haven’t Seen This Before - Celebrating Black Artists : Part 1

Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 5:30pm - 6:30pm

Join us for FREE monthly screenings of archival 16mm film shorts you probably haven’t seen before, projected on our 16mm Eastman Model 25 film projectors from the 1950’s!

Dive deep into the archival collections of IU Libraries Moving Image Archive through a new monthly screening series of short films! Each month, rare and unique archival films will be presented focusing on underrepresented narratives and underrepresented motion-picture practices that push on and expand the spectrum of what is considered “cinema.”

In an effort to keep audiences open-minded and with limited pre-conceptions of these rare works of celluloid, descriptions of films to be shown will not be shared prior to screenings. Join us based on announced themes and the expectation that the works you see will fall outside of Hollywood troupes, outside of mainstream commercial expectations, and outside of conventional filmmaking practices. Trust us, you (probably) haven’t seen these films before!

This program is curated by our own Carmel Curtis and hosted by the IU Libraries Moving Image Archive Screening Room.
