IU's School of Social Work offers an accelerated and rigorous program that helps you earn a bachelor's and master's of social work in a little as 5 years. Apply for the program by your second year, maintain a 3.0 GPA through your third year, you'll be eligible to take MSW classes while completing your bachelor's degree.
What is AMP?
Meeting Workforce Demand: Social work careers are growing faster than average, and accelerated pathways help prepare qualified professionals sooner.
Cost‑Effectiveness: Students save money by applying undergraduate credits to the MSW and paying undergraduate tuition for graduate courses.
Retention and Completion: Structured, accelerated pathways increase student engagement and support timely degree completion.
All applicants must meet the following criteria by the end of their 2nd year:
- Minimum of a 3.0 GPA.
- Maintain good academic standing at Indiana University.
- Demonstrate strong performance in their chosen minor or area of interest, particularly in courses deemed foundational to social work (e.g., human behavior, social policy, research methods, statistics).
- While overall GPA is considered, emphasis will be placed on performance in relevant coursework and demonstrated analytical abilities.

Year 1: Express interest
- Attend an AMP info session in the spring semester
- Fill out the Intent to Apply form
Year 2: Apply
- Meet with your academic advisor and/or a Social Work recruiting specialist to discuss your academic plan
- Submit the following:
- traditional MSW application form (with fees waived)
- Personal statement (350 words)
- Transcripts
- Letters of recommendation (2)
Do I need a BSW?
BSW students can enroll in up to 12 MSW credit hours over the last two semesters of their BSW program. Those courses include:
- SWK S517 Multidimensional Assessment in Mental Health & Substance Use Disorder (3 cr)
- SWK S519 Community and Global Theory and Practice (3 cr)
- SWK S600 Elective (3 cr)
- SWK S618 Advanced Policy Practice (3 cr)
- SWK S623 Practice Evaluation (3 cr)
Non-BSW students can enroll in up to 15 MSW credit hours over the last two semesters of their non-BSW program. Those courses include:

- SWK S506 Foundations of Ethical Social Work Practice (3 cr)
